SHORT BIOGRAPHY A social work educator since 1986, Dr. Sheridan joined the graduate faculty at Gallaudet in 1997 bringing extensive clinical experience in community mental health, school social work, and private practice. Her administrative experience includes clinical supervision, as well as program development, management, evaluation and consultation. Dr. Sheridan is engaged in ongoing research on the developmental experiences of deaf and hard of hearing people across the lifecycle. She is the author of Inner lives of deaf children: Interviews and analysis (2001) and Deaf Adolescents: Inner lives and lifeworld development (2008). Other publications cover social work assessment and practice with deaf and hard of hearing people, deaf women, deaf parenting with hearing children, adolescents with ushers syndrome, suicide prevention, and existential transcendence among deaf and hard-of-hearing people. She has lectured extensively on these topics and others such as family issues, spirituality in social work practice, aging, domestic violence, deaf women, health and mental health services. She is currently a councilor on the Council on Social Work Education's Council on Disability and People with Disabilities. She teaches Human Behavior and the Social Environment and Social Work Practice in Gallaudet's MSW Program.
