SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Ms. Moore is currently MSW Program Director and Assistant Professor at Gallaudet University Department of Social Work. She has been on the faculty at Gallaudet University since 1996. She has been teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses. Prior to this position, she worked as an advisor at the Academic Advising Department, 1994-1996 and as adjunct instructor at Social Work Department, 1995-1996. Ms. Moore is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from the Gallaudet University Department of Administration and Supervision. Ms. Moore was a part-time teacher at Maryland Rehabilitation Center's Adult Basic Education program for deaf adults. She was a part-time mental health therapist at Baltimore, MD based Family Services Foundation of the Deaf, Inc. and a coordinator of Project AIDS at Deafpride, Inc., a community based organization in Washington, D.C. Prior to these positions, Ms. Moore was employed by the Elwyn-Nevil Center for the Deaf in Philadelphia providing information and referral services and case management. She was a supervisor at CAMcare Transitional Residence in New Jersey and a mental health therapist at Deaf Options, Inc. in Detroit, Michigan. Ms. Moore has been reappointed by the Governor of Virginia for the second time to chair the Virginia Department for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons Advisory Board. She is a founder of the Philadelphia Chapter of Black Deaf Advocates and the Northern Virginia Black Deaf Advocates. She was also active informing the deaf community on HIV/AIDS issues through the National Coalition on Deafness and HIV/AIDS, and Washington, DC based DeafPride, Inc. Ms. Moore has published several articles and has lectured on issues concerning Black Deaf Persons and their Families, HIV/AIDS and the Deaf Community. Her current research interests include Black Deaf Families and HIV/AIDS. Ms. Moore belongs to a family with three generations of deaf members.
